HISTORY

Established in 1949 with two 2 cubic yard mixers, B & B has grown to become the area leader in the ready mix concrete industry. After more than 70 years, our focus remains on providing a foundation for our employees, customers, and communities for generations to come.

1940’s

1949

Boozer Transit Mix is founded by Henry Brevard, Jr. and Riley Boozer, Henry’s father-in-law on Carnation Street in Tupelo, MS. It was the first concrete plant in North Mississippi between Jackson, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee. The initial fleet includes two used trucks each with two cubic yard mixers.

1950’s

1955

The company’s name changes from Boozer Transit Mix to B & B Concrete Co., Inc. B & B engages in general concrete contracting, including street, industrial, residential and pool construction, in addition to providing ready-mix concrete.

1960’s

1960

The company’s growth in the 1950’s requires B & B to identify a new, larger Tupelo plant location. A 20-acre site is purchased on Industrial Road and a new, modern plant is built. The company opens a contractor’s supply store offering a full line of concrete contracting products, including reinforced steel, wire mesh, hand tools and bagged goods.

1968

A ready mix plant is constructed in Okolona, MS, marking the first expansion outside the city of Tupelo.

1970’s

1974

B & B expands its RCP and precast concrete products business with the purchase of a new roller head concrete pipe machine was purchased and a plant was built to produce 12”-72” diameter round concrete pipe.

1976

A ready mix plant is constructed in Pontotoc, MS.

1978

A new ready mix plant is constructed in Verona, MS.

 

1980’s

1982

A new ready mix plant is constructed in Oxford, MS.

1984

David Brevard, Henry Brevard’s son and Riley Boozer’s grandson joins the family business full-time.

1986

B & B acquires the assets of TD Concrete, adding a ready mix plant location in Ripley, MS.

1987

A new ready mix plant is constructed in Saltillo, MS and B & B acquires the assets of Neil Bain Ready Mix, adding a location in Holly Springs, MS.

1989

A new ready mix plant is constructed in New Albany, MS.

1990’s

1992

David Brevard becomes President of B & B Concrete, representing the third generation of family leadership for the company.

1994

B & B acquires the assets of S & J Ready Mix and Corinth Ready Mix, adding plant locations in Booneville, MS and Corinth, MS.

2000’s

2008

A new ready mix plant is constructed in Blue Springs, MS to provide concrete to the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi plant.

2008

The concrete contracting division closes after more than 50 years of business operation so that the business could focus its attention on ready mix concrete, concrete pipe, and precast concrete production.

2010’s

2011

B & B acquires the assets of MMC Materials in Fulton, MS and constructs a new ready mix concrete plant.

2014

Victor McMillan, David’s son-in-law, joins B & B, representing the fourth generation of family involvement in the business.

2018

B & B constructs a new state-of-the-art ready-mix plant, office, and shop building in Oxford to accommodate the growth of Oxford and Lafayette County.

2019

B & B Concrete celebrates 70 years of continuous business operation.

 

2020’s

2020

Founder Henry Brevard, Jr. passes away at age 98. The pipe & precast division closes and a hauling division is formed to provide increased delivery service of raw materials to company ready mix plants.

2021

B & B Concrete acquires the asset of Milligan Ready Mix and Iuka Concrete Products, adding its 13th ready mix plant location in Iuka, MS.

2022

Victor McMillan becomes President of B & B Concrete, representing the 4th generation of family leadership for the company.

2023

B & B Concrete acquires the assets of Nabors Concrete, adding its 14th ready mix plant location in Houston, MS.
